Held Space for local changemakers to come together creatively.

Enabled tangible actions to be taken forward and new connections to be made.

The Context

LESS CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company in Lancashire, UK, dedicated to promoting sustainable living and supporting local food systems.

LESS coordinates a wide range of environmental and community projects. In this instance they held an intention to bring together changemaker organisations and individuals from across Lancaster District in a one-day event.

They felt a need for:

  • Support in shaping a truly meaningful day for participants

  • Additional resource to ‘hold’ the day

  • Satisfaction from participants that it met them where they were in their needs.

The Work

We began with a co-creation session and subsequent pre-event discussions with LESS to establish the intention for the day and what event design would deliver the most impact.

Together, we crafted:

  • A clear intention for the day which involved opportunity for connection, inspiration and take-away actions.

  • Activities throughout the day which met this intention and had good flow energetically.

  • A Facilitators’ Agenda with clear roles and responsibilities throughout the day.

From there, we delivered the event, with Henry acting as the lead facilitator and LESS staff having co-facilitator roles.

During the day we created:

  • Opportunities for people to connect and meet new changemaker organisations.

  • Interactive workshops which generated take-away actions for future co-working and inspiration.

  • A beautiful visual representation of the day by Claire from ‘More than Minutes’

The Outcome

  • Awareness raising of work that other changemakers are implementing in the District

  • Co-creation of closer working / ties moving into the future

  • Tangible take-away actions to facilitate change

  • Participants having had a memorable and enjoyable day together

What this project shows

The co-design process of all events is critical to meaningful delivery. This all starts with the primary intention of the event and visioning the experience of the participants on the day.
